The Parent Education / Support Series Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment
Center for Teens
Current research tells us that our impact on reducing alcohol or drug use is best sustained with the involvement of the adolescent’s family. For this reason, we offer our Parent Education/Support Series, in addition to regular meetings with the youth’s primary counselor, in order to support parents through their adolescents treatment.
What is it?
The Parent Education/ Support Series is a group series designed to support the people most important to sustaining the treatment gains of these adolescents– the family. Goals of the series include:
* Providing information regarding adolescent addiction and treatment as well as adolescent development.
* Strengthening the skills that parents and families are already using in order to impact their teen’s alcohol or drug use.
* Providing an opportunity for parents to network with and learn from other parents who have adolescents with similar needs.
* Offering information about community resources to best support their teen’s progress.
Who Must Attend?
Since we believe that family support outside of the program is necessary to sustain the positive changes of our participants, we mandate all parents and guardians to attend the initial 8-week series. This includes parents, step-parents, foster parents and guardians who are involved in supporting participants in the Wolfe Center Treatment Program. We invite and encourage all parents to continue participation after the 8-week segment has ended. |
When is it?
The Parent Education/Support Series happens once a week and is offered in both English speaking and Spanish speaking segments. Each meeting is facilitated by a trained substance abuse counselor.
Meeting times are as follows:
Monday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for English speaking families
Thursday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for monolingual Spanish speaking families.
Meetings take place at the Wolfe Center. Sign up is not necessary.
About the Wolfe Center
The Wolfe Center is an intensive Outpatient Treatment facility for teenagers who are using alcohol and other drugs. Participants who seek treatment from the Wolfe Center usually do so because of the negative consequences their alcohol or drug use has had on many aspects of their lives including their education, relationships, families and sometimes with the law.
At the Wolfe Center we do our best to provide the support and structure necessary to assist our youth in reducing the impact of their use and moving forward toward their potential. We do this through the provision of many services including group and individual counseling as well as random urine testing.
