Counselor II
The Counselor II position is equivalent to the “case counselor” or “primary counselor” position found in many substance abuse programs and is the mainstay of the clinical staff. The responsibilities of the position fall into two basic categories: (i) providing clinical services to clients; and (ii) monitoring and supervising clients in the “milieu,” which refers to periods when clients are at the facility, but not participating in formal, documented clinical activities. With respect to direct clinical services, the Counselor II is able to screen prospective clients, assess new admissions, prepare treatment plans for presentation to the multidisciplinary treatment team, conduct ongoing case monitoring and management, provide crisis intervention and management, work with families and other significant others, and conduct individual and group counseling sessions. While these activities are performed in the context of a multi-disciplinary team and under the general supervision of clinical managers, the Counselor II is expected to be proficient in these areas and to be able to act under the treatment plan without immediate and direct supervisory input.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor's Degree in appropriate behavioral health field, 4 years experience in children's services, one year of work experience and proficiency in substance abuse prevention treatment and youth development.
